Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the frequent asked questions page.

If you have any queries that have not been addressed on our website, please contact us.

1. What do I need to apply?
JAA CPL, with valid IR ME and MCC.
If you don’t have a license contact info@ifajet-training.com.

2. If I want to start a specific course date, when do I have to apply?
The courses start when we have a minimum number of students that are interested in starting a course so we can’t guarantee a specific course date until you have applied.

3. I don’t have MCC, can you provide it for me?
IFA offers the MCC course that can be done separately or be incorporated on any Type Rating Course, with 40% cost reduction on the MCC simulator instruction, in accordance with JAR regulations.

4. Do I need a simulator partner?
Yes, simulator training is performed in crews of 2 pilots and our courses have a minimum of 2 students. If you don’t have a partner interested in the same course we can send your résumé to our associated school to include you in their classes.

5. I have a foreign license (not JAA) can I still start the course?
You can start the course but you have to make sure your national CAA accepts the training.
We cannot provide the required base check for you if you don’t have a JAA license.

6. How do I convert my certificate to a JAA?
Until we are not certified as a FTO (Flight Training Organization) we can only assist pilots with ICAO license and 1.500 flight hours.

7. Is your course JAA approved?
IFA is a fully JAA approved Portuguese TRTO with the Certificate number: PT/TRTO/04/03.
This means that all our training meets the JAA standards and regulations and is recognized by all JAA member states. Upon completion we will give you a complete package with all documents/approvals that your authority requires for acceptance of your new type rating.

8. Where will I stay during the course?
We can provide you the contacts of hotels with accessible rates in Portugal and in the city of the simulator training. All travel arrangements are done by the student. IFA is happy to give assistance in everything students need.

9. How long is the duration of the course?
The total time is specified on each course page (Course Structure).
When you are purchasing your tickets, make sure that you can change your return flight, even if it is for a fee. A good idea is to arrive 1 day earlier to take a look at the training centre. We recommend that your return flight is booked at least 3 days after the end of simulator course.
The length of the course depends on your own performance, if you do not meet the required JAA standards you have to undergo extra training.

10. Why is your course longer/shorter than other TRTO?
Since the simulator flying is the most challenging task during the course, it’s important to look at the amount of simulator hours when you compare different courses. A couple of extra hours can do a huge different for your result. For example, if your B757 course is shorter than 40 hours you will probably need expensive extra hours. That´s why our courses have more hours.

11. Do you provide CBT (computer based training)?
We use a special procedure training done by some instructors of the simulator training.

12. Is there a dress code?
Dress code is business casual (no shorts or t-shirts).

13. Do you provide take offs and landings (base check)?
We will arrange the base check usually within 1-3 weeks after your skill test. IFA is always trying to find the most economical solution in Europe to arrange the Base Flight to students.

14. How many take offs and landings do I need?
The requirement is for 06 landings to be completed, including at least one full stop landing.
In the case of an application for a multi pilot aeroplane; if you have logged more than 500 hours flying experience on multi pilot aeroplanes of similar size and performance, you may reduce the requirement to a minimum of 04 landings in the aircraft. The Authority defines similar types as aircraft similar in size and performance.

15. How do I get the rating in my license?
After completion of base check you will be given all the required documents for your national authority. That includes skill test form, training records, TRTO approval, simulator certificate, and instructor and examiner authorizations. After receiving these documents, you will have to submit them to your Civil Aviation Authority to update your license with the Type Rating.

16. Will you help me find a job afterwards?
We can’t guarantee a job but we have close relations with Portuguese airline companies who are our clients and we can include you on recruitment processes. IFA can only guarantee Line Training in a Portuguese or European air carrier, depending on the type rating aircraft.
100% of IFAs students were/are employed in an air carrier as first job.
